North Shore Surf Contests
Most contests on the North Shore go down at Pipeline, which breaks close to shore and affords amazing viewing opportunities. If and when the swell gets big enough, the Eddie Aikau Memorial contest is held at Waimea Bay. Known worldwide as "the Eddie", this is a fantastic event when it goes off. The best professional and big wave surfers are invited to participate, and the event honors the legendary Eddie Aikau, the first official lifeguard on the North Shore. In order for the contest to be held, there must be 25ft+ waves, local scale. The Eddie has only been held eight times in over 25 years.
